Had a quick google - none of the news looks good though People have sent the body off to Canon who've returned it without a fix etc etc
Have you tried it with a different lens at all The contacts might not be dirty but damaged.

Thank you both I shall try and let you know how it turns out I really think I might cry - the message appears everytime a wonderful photo opportunity emerges and then of course in an instant it is gone It is so frustrating If the above doesnt work I may seriously consider buying a new body
I have tried all three of my lenses and the same happened to them
Ill give the above ago and get back to you hopefully with good news

tried the above and thought it worked but after a few shots the error showed up again
it seems that I have to remove the batteryput it back in again before taking shots Have tried to get the camera to start shooting at 0 again in case it keeps trying to write over the previous image but it wont stay The error seems to show when i turn the camera off then turn it on again later to take photos without taking the battery out
one of the sd cards i tried is new so its not a faulty card
i just dont know

no I dont I will try and find a canon shop tomorrow and see what they can do to help/test otherwise ill be looking up the old travel insurance policy to see what i can or can not do

there is a canon specialist which deals in Bangkok and he serviced my camera and upgraded the firmaware - it works!!!!!!
